The Sushi Bar - One Of The Best And Affordable Japanese Restaurant

The Sushi Bar is a small Japanese restaurant located in the inconspicuous forth level of Far East Plaza, however the queue speaks a different story. Over at this restaurant they are well known for their premium quality ingredients served at an affordable price.

SCALLOP MENTAIYAKI ($13.90)
The scallop mentaiyaki is one of their popular appetizer. Fresh scallops then has been butterflied, drizzled with mentaiyaki which is then lightly torched on the surface. It is then finished with a garnish of tobiko and scallions on the side.

The fresh scallops on its own were amazing. It has a sweet and clean flavors of the ocean that comes with a smooth slippery texture. The lightly charred mentaiko sauce on top provides a salty and smoky savoriness that brings out the flavors of the scallops. Pairing it with the scallions gave a nice refreshing bite, while the tobiko gave an added briny element to the dish. A must try in my opinion if you are a fan of fresh scallops.

SALMON ABURI ROLL ($14.90)
The salmon aburi roll served at the The Sushi Bar consists of avocado, crab stick, tamago and salmon sashimi encased in Japanese rice. It is then wrapped with a layer of salmon, topped with mentaiko sauce and completed with a slight char on the surface.

With each bite of the maki, you can appreciate the flavors of each ingredients from the distinct grains of the rice, to the crunch of the cucumbers, to the buttery avocado and the savory mentaiko sauce. This simple maki is one that you can slowly enjoy.

A totally different approach to this classic maki would be the Shiok Maki from Koh Grill & Sushi Bar. Imagine a handful of tobiko and special mayonnaise sauce generously doused on top of your maki. How shiok would that be?

SALMON DON ($15.90)
A salmon don is a dish with no frills, thus any flaws will be clearly noticeable. The salmon don served here comes with seasoned Japanese white rice, slices of Salmon Sashimi neatly arranged and tobiko nicely presented on a shiso leaf.

The generously thick slices of salmon sashimi were really fresh and goes hand in hand with Japanese rice which were nicely seasoned and you could taste the distinctive grains. The tobiko completes the dish by providing that added briny flavor.

PREMUIM CHIRASHI DON (SEASONAL PRICE - $46.90)
Literally the ocean's bounty in a bowl! Thick slices of Salmon, Aburi salmon belly, Yellowtail, Swordfish, Tuna, Scallops, Uni, Sweet shrimp, Ikura and Tamago all beautifully presented on a bed of Japanese white rice and garnished with slices of cucumber, radish and edible flowers.

The sashimi were all vibrant and tasted really fresh! My favorite has to be the seared salmon belly that literally melts in your mouth with a distinct smoky charred aftertaste and the raw scallops and shrimp which had a deliciously sweet flesh and lingers no fishy aftertaste.

After visiting The Sushi Bar, I was thoroughly satisfied and impressed by the quality of their seafood at such an affordable price. Definitely give this place a try if you are around the area!
